Without making a historic of Apple iPhone products, it is interesting to consider the evolution of the “king ” smartphone market according to the smartphone repairman that is Reda Solutions.
The iPhone 4, a step forward on the first models
In its release, the iPhone 4 was noted for its minimalist aesthetic along with its new hardened glass (Gorilla Glass). It was generally popular with consumers, and few problems were reported about it. The quality of the photographs was considered acceptable for a model of this kind. The GPS performance, the Wifi and the 3G were generally appreciated. The Retina display that allowed multiply the screen resolution by four compared to the previous models has generated mixed results: Although the quality of web browsing and viewing of photographs and videos was improved, repairers deplored its fragility and its propensity to scratch easily. The camera color management has been critized because of the slightly bluish white. As well, its lack of autonomie was denoted.
3 iPhone 5 or nothing!
The iPhone 5 has received a dual opinion on consumers. Several consumers are seeing a barely improved version of the previous model; many testers have even noticed reduced performance, particularly in terms of battery autonomy. Although the inscreased length of the screen -measuring now 8.85 cm- was considered one of its main assets, it can be an an inconvenience for those who prefer devices that easily fit in their pockets. However, the 4-inch screen (against 3.5 for the iPhone 4) has delighted video lovers. From the point of view of durability, the use of Gorilla Glass 2 brought a marked improvement in performance while ensuring a good level of comfort to the users. Many clumsy consumers who let them fall pointed out that the iPhone 5 was more robust than the products of competing brands from the same generation. Replacing the glass following a breakage became less frequent.
The 5C, mid-line product
Since its launch the iPhone 5c has assumed a status of mid-line model. Appreciated among Apple products for its value for money, many commentators have pointed out that there are only a few differences in performance and ergonomics with the iPhone 5S, which was designated “high-end smartphone.”
In terms of reliability and robustness, both devices have actually shown similar characteristics. The iPhone 5S is particularly distinguished by its ability to withstand shocks and scratches. The main shortcoming identified by repairers was its tendency to overheat easily and its battery problems : the price to pay for its high performances. The Retina screens used for iPhone 5S 5c have seduced by their quality: very bright, they were endowed with perfect color management. Despite the difference in range, only the most aware users have detected differences between the screens of both models. Smartphones category 5, 5C and 5S had a touch-delay of 75 ms, which made them the devices with the more reactive screens in the market at the time of their release.
The iPhone 6
With a 4.7 inch screen , the iPhone 6 has aroused many expectations and a favorable reception. Its screen, like the iPhone 6 Plus screen as well, was made by Apple competitor that sector: Samsung. The quality of LCD screens was highly noticed. Although their performances were not the highest of all smartphones in the market when they first were launched, they stood prominently among the top candidates. Very reactive, with a touch delay of only 65 ms, they display a very good brightness that allows users to comfortably use their device in direct sunlight, although comfort was slightly altered by the reflections that occur among all those brightly lit glasses. Their screen is slightly convex to give the impression to the user to be very close to the displayed image. Colorimetry, very balanced, allowing a very good detail rendering on the screen, both in dark and light shades. The 5.5 inch screen of the iPhone 6+, actually, a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet (known as “PHABLET”) is adapted for playing games and watching videos. Repairers do not fall problems or recurring breakdowns in the workshop.
The iPhone SE
The large size of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ models pushed the public to demand a high-performance device but with a format similar to that of the iPhone 5: Apple has responded to this need and proposed the iPhone SE. It was equipped with a window that makes less contrast than phones in the same product line. On the other hand it has a record brightness to an Apple device. It displays excellent readability in all circumstances. Responsive, it allows comfortable reading and ergonomic navigation. With a size of 5 inches, it allows users to watch videos comfortably. Its performances, often considered average compared to previous versions, are offset by very few technical problems reported by users.
